Gentlemen,
This Saturday
will be a little different to a normal Saturday in so much as we have a visit from some of the RFU top brass.
Here’s
the link to the RFU website http://www.rfu.com/News/2010/January/News%20Articles/070110_RFU_East_Midlands
We have been
asked to host Andrew Scoular, Director of Community Rugby for the RFU together with Steve Miles from the East Midlands RFU
before and after the game. We have also invited Rushden officials to join us for a buffet lunch before the game. The
bar will be open at 12.30.
Why us? I
can only think that we have caused a few ripples with our successes both on and off the field over the last year or so. We
had two really good social rugby occasions last season (VPs Day / Barry’s birthday and the Bedfordshire Cup Final) and
we are being noticed.
When we first
dropped out of the leagues in 2000 we were told that without league rugby we wouldn’t get fixtures and wouldn’t
survive. I think that we have proved that there is a place for social rugby and it can be played to a high standard. I believe
that the Merit Tables have made a great contribution to this enabling us to introduce and in many cases reintroduce players
to playing rugby without all the red tape involved in the league system.
It would
be great to see lots of players and supporters at Colworth on Saturday. England are still looking for some dynamic players
to complete their squad!!
